About the Session:

Some sobering stats from a 2019 survey about stress management: 45% of leaders report feeling stress as the ‘predominant emotion’ in the workplace, and 51% say they feel both physically and emotionally drained after the workday.

Given the current state of our world and the challenges posed by Covid-19, it’s safe to say those stats (not even one year old) may be conservative, and will be replaced by stats we never thought we’d be discussing (e.g., quarantine-related work stress statistics…) Clearly, we need tools to help us work, lead, and live within our ‘new normal.’ We need tools to help us self-manage and lead ourselves and our virtual teams with calm, steady resilience.

Even before the Covid-19 crisis, many companies (Google, Twitter, Nike, General Mills, and Apple, to name a few) were encouraging mindful practices as a way for leaders to manage stress, improve focus, and overall well-being. In fact, many CEOs and CLOs consider mindfulness an ‘essential’ component in leadership training - a way for leaders to build resilience, stress tolerance, and empathy while increasing clarity, focus, and productivity. In this way, mindfulness is more than a trend - it’s a way of being that can help us thrive (not just survive!) in the modern world.

Mindful leadership practices are secular, backed by scientific research, and the good news (if you’re wondering) ~ you don’t have to meditate for long stretches of time to experience the benefits of mindfulness. There are a multitude of easy-to-remember, real-world practices you can incorporate into your daily work and life which can help you disengage from stressful thoughts and emotions, become more focused and productive, and feel more centered, grounded and resilient.

  • What is mindful leadership and why it matters in today’s world
  • What is driving the increase in mindful leadership practices
  • The neuroscience behind mindfulness and optimum brain states
  • Simple practices you can incorporate into your workday immediately

Mindful leadership practices have never been more crucial as they are right now. You’ll leave this webinar with insights and tools to help you live more mindfully and surf the uncertainly of today’s challenging times.

About the Speaker:

Brenda Vallieu has over 18 years’ experience in corporate L&D, primarily in leadership development and coaching. Through customized coaching and training programs, she best sums up her work as, ‘I help leaders focus on their inner game, so they can bring their best selves to the outer game.’

Brenda’s journey into corporate learning and development began while working at a NYC-based healthcare company, when she was asked to spearhead the company’s first training department. Since then, Brenda has served in management roles for two global organizations, Foot Locker, Inc., and Tiffany & Co. Redesigning and facilitating Tiffany & Co.’s robust 2-day Coaching Conversations for Business Results program was an incredible highlight for her.

In her own leadership coaching and consulting business, sharing mindful practices with her clients contribute greatly to how she helps leaders create the right internal conditions to thrive in the modern world. Brenda credits mindfulness in helping her through some of her own most challenging times, like her father’s cancer diagnosis, a move from NYC to Florida to care for her mom, and the (difficult) decision to leave corporate and go out on her own in 2016. She jokes that she was once a ‘closet meditator’ before mindfulness became ‘okay' to talk about at work. She’s thrilled that times are changing…
